A DREAM BECAME A REALITY FOR TROOPS AROUND THE WORLD Springfield Cares Soldier Mailing Inc. located in Spring f field, Illinois, sent the first “goody” boxes on an October Sunday in 2007 and have continuously mailed snacks and toiletries to our service members serving overseas ever since. In April of 2022 we incorporated and became a 501c3 organization with the stated mission to support troops serving in Harms Way overseas, or on ships at sea. We are over 6000 boxes mailed and have witnessed the postage go from $8.00 per box to over $27.00. We have been blessed by the financial support of many individuals and organizations thus allowing us to continue our work. None of this would be possible without our many volunteers who meet monthly to make it all happen. On December 16th we gathered to pack 204 boxes to ship to remote places as a reminder to our service men and women that they are not forgotten. We had 45 volunteers from Lodge #158, other lake clubs, private organizations and businesses, who baked pizzas, packed boxes, rotated inventory, broke down cardboard, moved tables, loaded the truck and trailer, and repacked items for next month's mailing.
